A Tool for Self Reflection
As a musician, spending time reflecting on where you are, what needs improving, what you feel good about, your musical goals, and so on is a great way to learn about yourself. It’s also an excellent way to begin a process of growth and development in your life as a musician. In fact, self-reflection is the first step in a personal transformation.
I’ve developed a self assessment form that you can use to help you approach your transformation systematically and thoroughly. To access the form please click on the link below. Once you’ve responded to all of the questions on the form, I recommend that you spend time reading through all of your answers and thinking about them. Then, put the form aside for a while and read the questions and your answers again later. When you do, you may find that you want to change some of the ways that you responded to certain questions, maybe because your feelings, opinions, and attitudes related to the issues the questions raise have changed.
Like most professional musicians, you can address on your own many of the problems related to your musical life that your answers may highlight and it’s very likely that you can also attain many of your music-related goals by teaching yourself and learning on your own. However, you may decide that the help of a teacher or coach would be helpful to resolving specific problems or could help you achieve certain goals more quickly. Whatever you do however -- work 100% on your own or get professional help -- you are the pilot of your musical life. In the end it’s up to you to make good things happen in that life.
